New Office Toys

I'm probably dating myself, but remember "pet rocks"? Featured picture #12Then there were the small, hand-held, electronic pets that you had to "feed", and play with or they would "die"? I'm sure a lot of you had these pets in your office along with all the other promotional gizmos and stress relievers. Sometimes you could even tell how long a person has been working in Information Technology (IT) by how many squishy objects and toys they had laying around their cube. I think these "microbugs" best represent the ultimate in office pets. They don't need to be fed or cleaned up after. They're just fun to look at and play with.

I'm now a trained Weather Spotter for the National Weather Service (NWS).

National Air Traffic Controller's Association

Last week, the FAA stalled negotiations with our nation's air traffic controllers. A series of aggressive press releases and lobby efforts by the FAA Administrator gives a clear indication that rather than try and reach a voluntary agreement, the FAA has begun their effort to impose a contract rather than use the traditionally accepted practices for fair dispute resolution. Under the FAA approach, they can simply continue to stall the process, even as a federal mediator attempts to facilitate an agreement. However we can restore fairness in the process and ensure the differences in contract negotiations are dealt with in an impartial process, the same kind of process that is available in other federal agencies and private companies.
